Preface

Foreverhood is a first person action adventure with a heavy emphasis on story and choice. As your character travels through the world, you have the option to talk to whom you please and kill whom you please. Be warned: every killing in foreverhood has consequences. Kill enough of one side and you will find yourself fighting them permanently.

I) Starting the game

To run foreverhood, Double click on the batch file ‘Run Foreverhood’. Do not launch the game from the zdoom executable, as it will crash because of its inability to find game content on its own.

II) Controls:

Foreverhood follows the standard controls of modern PC first person shooters

By default, the following controls are loaded from foreverhood.ini

W – Move Forward

S – Move Backward

A – Sidestep Left

D – Sidestep Right

Left Mouse Button – Fire

Right Mouse Button – Jump

Z – Alternate Dialog speed

Q – Skip cut scene sequence

Notes about cut scenes and skipping:

When a cut scene is executed, you will see a “* * *” printed on the bottom of the screen. During this time, the Q button can be pressed to skip the sequence. A       white flash will appear letting you know you have skipped the cut scene. Because of the way some cut scenes are structured, there may be additional dialog and events after this occurs.

OpenGL:

Starting in version 1.1, Foreverhood has switched to the gzdoom engine which supports OpenGL technology. To use the OpenGL renderer, open up 'options' menu in game and select set 'video modes'.

Within this menu, change the renderer type from 'software' to 'OpenGL'

About the HUD

Gameplay and HUD information:

Health is gained by killing creatures. Regardless of who you kill, you will receive either health (red bar, 1) or power (blue bar, 2). Whichever meter is lower when the kill is made is the bar that will be filled. Below your health is your karma meter (3). It will change when you kill a creature to become either a red skull (you are evil) or a yellow face (you are good). When this happens you will receive a new weapon to replace your fists. In this build of foreverhood, this will be the only weapon that uses your power.

III)Requirements:

Note: If your computer is capable of running doom 3, ignore this section.

Foreverhood uses old technology, so if you have a computer made after 1995, your system can handle foreverhoods environments. However, to ensure maximum frame rates in densely populated areas, the following specs are recommended:

PIII 900 MHz

256mb or ram

60 MB of disk space

A sound card

32 MB video card capable of

 800 x 600 resolutions

Minimum:

PII 350 MHz machine

64mb of Ram

40mb of disk space

VGA Video card capable of

 640 x 480 resolutions

IV) Known Bugs and crashes

-Slime Trails:

little line glitches in various parts of the level are one of the reactions the rendering engine has to the detail of the world. I’ve tried reducing them as much as I can, but they are really out of my control.
